Pythagoras of Samos
My name is Pythagoras of Samos, My father's name is Mnesarchus and my mother's name is Pythais. I was born in Samos, Greece 570 BC. My father was a merchant/gem engraver and I often spent most of my time with my father as he traveled from place to place. I attended school and was intelligent and well educated. Being very fond of poetry, I often recited the poems of Homer. My wife's name was Theano and we had four children; Damo, Arignote, Telauges, and Myia.
In 535 BC I left Samos and went to Egypt when Polycrates took control.
I started the school of Pythagoras it was every bit as much a religion as a school of mathematics. For example, here are some of the rules:
